The Shepherd and the Goddess Weaver Girl
Were separated from each other
By the gods whom created the Milky Way,
Like a universal river between them.
After seeing their true love, the Gods,
on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month,
Made that all the magpies of the world fly up to the heavens
And build a magpie bridge across the Milky Way
For the Shepherd and the Weaver Girl
So that once a year they can meet.
